Financial Aid Holds

Why do I have a hold from Financial Aid?

Financial Aid holds prevent federal aid from being disbursed.

Some of the common Financial Aid holds are:

“Title IV Packaging Hold” (FT4): (Reason Description - "SAP not Met for Term Indicated") Student is not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)Student will need to submit a Title IV Appeal before the deadline posted on the BMCC Academic Calendar.  Successful Title IV Appeals can take 1-2 weeks to get updated in the student’s account.  All inquiries regarding Title IV hold removal or financial aid disbursement status can be sent to SAP@bmcc.cuny.edu

“Financial Aid Exit Interview” (FEX): (Reason Description - "Direct Loan/Staff Exit Interview") Student must complete the Exit Interview for their Federal Direct Loan at https://studentaid.gov/.  If the hold has not been removed after 2 weeks of completing the Exit Counseling, the student can send an email to finaid@bmcc.cuny.edu

“SEOG/Loan Disbursement Hold”(FLD): Student is under the required 6 credits per semester to be eligible for SEOG, Perkins Loan, or Direct Loan. Student must enroll to maintain at least part-time status.

“Financial Aid Hold” (FNP):  Student registered for Winter session only at BMCC. This hold will remain if the student registerfor a regular Spring semester at a different college If the student does not enroll in any other schools, then the hold will be removed for aid disbursement.

A student can determine whether they have any holds on their account by logging in to CUNYfirst and going to their Student Center.  Holds will appear in the “holds” field to the right of the Academics section.  Selecting “details” in the “holds” field will open up a page that will list all the holds on the students account, including information on the date and semester it was applied, and the college and department the hold was issued from.  If the hold was issued from the Financial Aid department, you can contact Financial Aid (finaid@bmcc.cuny.edu with any questions.
