What does "Dependent or Independent status" mean for financial aid?
Your answers to certain questions on the FAFSA will determine if you are considered "dependent" or "independent" for financial aid purposes. For more information, visit FSA's Dependency Status webpage. If you are considered "dependent", you must include parental income and asset information on the FAFSA as well as your own. This is true even if you are not living with your parents or have your own income.
