Unable to Register for a Course

Why am I Unable to Register for a Particular Course?

Students are usually unable to register for a specific course due to the following reasons:

  • Student has not completed, or is not currently in the required prerequisite courses (courses students must take before they can register for the next level course). In some circumstances, the chairperson of the department that offers the course can give you permission to take the class.

  • The section is for a specific cohort of students (e.g. BLA, ASAP, etc.) or majors (e.g. HIT Only). Students would be eligible to take other sections of this course.

  • Some courses need a prior approval from a chairperson, professor, or Dean (ie. if you are a non-degree student or a senior auditing a course).

  • The course is closed due to maximum enrollment. Some classes offer a waitlist option and this option is available when registering via Schedule Builder
