International Student Application Steps

How do I apply as an International Student?

In order to attend BMCC as an International Student, you must first submit an admissions application to BMCC.  Once accepted, BMCC's International Student Services Office (ISSO) can assist you with the F-1 student visa process.

How to attend BMCC as an International Student:

Step I: Applying to BMCC

1. Submit a CUNY application online and pay the application fee.  Activate your CUNYfirst Account once you receive an email from CUNY to do so (If you do not have a Social Security Number, you will be emailed a CUNY-assigned number to activate your account).

2. Submit via mail original/translated academic docs to UAPC

3. Submit official TOEFL/IELTS/Parsons score to CUNY *unless exempt

4. Wait for BMCC Acceptance Emails (It usually takes 8 weeks to process International Student applications).

Click here for more details about how to apply and the deadlines for International admissions.

Step II: After you are Accepted.

1. Accept your offer of Admission (Log in to your CUNYfirst student account. View your BMCC application from the Admissions section of the Student Center. Click the “I Accept” button to confirm that you will attend BMCC for the upcoming semester.

2. Pay the Commitment Fee (Secure your place at BMCC by paying a small part of your tuition (about $100 USD) before registration. Log in to your CUNYfirst account to pay online. If you are having difficulty paying the deposit, please contact International Admissions at internationaladmissions@bmcc.cuny.edu ).

3. Complete the CUNY English as a Second Language Diagnostic Assessment (ESLD) (you will receive an email from the CUNY Office of Assessment with a personalized link to the online assessment. For more information about the ESLD, please visit the CUNY Testing web page. If you have questions, please contact the BMCC Testing Office ).

4. Apply for a BMCC Form I-20 from the International Student Services Office (ISSO). To obtain an F-1 student visa from the United States government, you will need to present a valid I-20 issued by BMCC. Submit a I-20 request application and proof of financial ability (proof you are able to cover all tuition and living expenses while studying in the U.S) to the ISSO. If the application is in another language other than English, you will need to get the documents translated by an official translation service including a notary.  The ISS0 will notify you by email about your application for a BMCC Form I-20 (usually in 2-3 weeks, if all documents are submitted in a timely manner). If approved you will be issued an I-20 and given a SEVIS number.

*Note that If you are already in the United State with F-1 status and studying at another school, follow the F-1 SEVIS Transfer process in Step 5A of the BMCC Form I-20 instructions

5. Submit Immunization requirements to BMCC (Instructions can be found here ).
