Unable to Register

Why am I Unable to Register?

Students are usually unable to register due to one of the following reasons:

  • Student did not get Advised> Students are required to be advised before every semester: Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall. Students should reach out to the Academic Advisement and Transfer Center at aatc@bmcc.cuny.edu or call        (212) 220-8315 during office hours for an appointment if needed.

  • Student is not term activated > New/Returning students might not have been matriculated or term activated yet. They can check this in their CUNYfirst Student Center in the Academics Tab. Students should email the Admissions Department admissions@bmcc.cuny.edu for assistance.  Note, that students who took off a semester (Fall or Spring) and then want to return the following semester, will not be term activated, and must readmit. Students can find the readmissions application at the following link: https://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/admissions/readmission/

  • Student has a financial or bursar hold on their account > Student must pay their balance or have a balance below $500 in order to register. Students can email bursar@bmcc.cuny.edu if they have questions about their account. You can check to see if you have a hold on your account by going into your CUNYfirst Student Center and checking the holds field to the right of the Academics tab.

  • Student does not have an enrollment appointment, or their appointment date is in the future (e.g. Senior Citizen Audit students can only register a few days before the semester) > Student can check their enrollment date in their CUNYfirst Student Center where it says Enrollment Dates on the rigth-hand side underneath the holds and to-do list fields. Email registrar@bmcc.cuny.edu to add an enrollment appointment if no date is found.

Once the issue is resolved, you can follow the instructions on how to register for classes at this link here: How_To_Enroll_Schedule_Builder.pdf (cuny.edu)
