ATB Checklist
How do I know if I need to take the ATB test?
ATB Exemption Criteria Students may be exempted from taking the ATB if they meet specific educational prerequisites
1. High School Completion:
Eligible students may have completed a US four-year high school degree.
2. High School Equivalency Diplomas:
Holding a New York State high school equivalency diploma or an equivalent from another state meets the exemption criteria.
3. College Coursework Requirement:
Successfully completing 24 semester hours at a recognized US degree-granting institution, also qualifies for exemption.
The credits need to be distributed specifically as follows: six semester hours or the equivalent in English language arts, including writing, speaking and reading (literature); three semester hours or the equivalent in mathematics; three semester hours or the equivalent in natural sciences; three semester hours or the equivalent in social sciences; three semester hours or the equivalent in humanities; and six semester hours or the equivalent in any other courses within the registered degree or certificate program, all as verified by the institution conferring the degree.
4. Degree Granting Institutions :
Students who have earned a degree from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or a Board of Regents-authorized school are exempt.
5. Regents Examination Passage:
Students who have passed required Regents examinations or their approved alternatives with at least a passing score of 65 or above are exempt
Students who have graduated from a foreign secondary school and did not fulfill any of the requirements above will be required to take the ATB test.
