International Student
Who is considered an International Student?
International students are non-immigrants with F-1 status. They must apply for their F-1 student visa from another country (there is no way to apply for an F-1 student visa in the United States).
International students do not include: those that were granted/applying for U.S citizenship, U.S citizens educated outside the United States, permanent residents (green card holders), refugees/asylum seekers, or undocumented immigrants.
An international student has to officially be admitted to BMCC before BMCC’s International Student Services Office (ISSO) can help them obtain an F-1 visa. Information on how to apply can be found here: Apply Now – BMCC (cuny.edu)
F-1 Students must maintain their F-1 student status through their entire education within the United States. To maintain F-1 status, they must be full-time students (12 credits or more) during the Fall/Spring Semesters, attend their classes (no WU grades), get permission from the ISSO to work and travel, and inform the ISSO of changes to address or financial situation.
BMCC does not sponsor F-1 students. They do not qualify for federal financial aid or special programs funded by the federal government (ie. ASAP, CUNY Start, College Discovery). They are also not eligible for in-city tuition. International student may be eligible for scholarships and immersion programs, however.
